Please describe your idea.

Great Mothers is a Web, SMS and mobile application that seeks to ease the monitoring of women during pregnancy, child birth and after birth.

What problem does your idea solve in the market?

Currently, when women visit health centres for antenatal care, they are usually given hard copy booklets/ charts that are used to monitor them and their babies. Health Centres do not usually retain their data as the women carry the booklets to and from the health centres. So what would happen incase the booklet got lost or damaged?
In maternal health, women experience a number of challenges as well as have suggestions too, but how can they present them to government or organisations so majority of them keep quiet which to our team is dead but valuable feedback.

Briefly explain how you identified the need or opportunity

We decided to come up with such an application that can reduce high maternal mortality causes such as limited reproductive health literacy and mistreatment of mothers by medical personnel.
Atleast each mother has a mobile handset, so we see it as a potential tool for our maternal health application.

Who are the beneficiaries of your solution and how will they benefit?

Pregnant women. Through use of SMS and the mobile application, women will be advised and aided in health education campaigns, receive reminders & alerts as well as report challenges they face.

Health Centres. The application will provide a monitoring tool as well as a centralized storage location for maternal health data.

Government and organisations. Reports and suggestions from women facing challenges in maternal health will be compiled, analyzed and presented to the relevant stakeholders.

Why are you convinced your solution will solve the problem?

We hope to ease the monitoring of new and expectant mothers. We hope to enable women to report challenges they face as well as suggestions, which data we shall compile

What other initiatives like yours exist out there? How will you differentiate your solution?

To our knowledge at the moment, we have not yet learnt or heard of any other initiatives like ours

What have you done up-to date to test your idea with potential users? What learnings do you have to share?

How will you financially sustain your business?

We shall charge Public Health Centres, public and private hospitals for use of the application. We shall create subscription plans basing on either monthly or yearly basis.
