Please describe your idea.

Field work planner: Simplifies navigation and collaboration for health
workers, and consumers through easy location of health facilities.

What problem does your idea solve in the market?

There is lack of quick access to health facility information. It can currently
get hard to navigate to sites, more-so in the remote countryside districts,
without stopping to ask for next route. The idea will help health workers
save time in pin-pointing the sites where they want to work.
The idea will further simplify linking up and collaborating with health
workers posted at the sites, by providing quick and safe access to health
human resource contact information, and communication.
The solution further avails information to health consumers about nearby
facilities, and services available.

Briefly explain how you identified the need or opportunity

The idea was inspired by the difficulty one team member faced in pinpointing
health centers down the country side, and linking up desired
health workers stationed at these sites for collaborative tasks.
Uganda has over 4000 health units. Several organizations implement
activities in these facilities, mostly the Implementing Partners
(IPs), other agencies such as NMS and JMS. For such field officers like health trainers, and data collectors, it’s crucial to accelerate access to accurate and up-to-date health unit-specific information about Geo-location, levels of
care, management types among others, and health human resource
contact details to simplify collaboration on health activities.

Who are the beneficiaries of your solution and how will they benefit?

This solution will be available primarily to the personnel who perform
health activities in the communities. This section of health workers
encircles the health Implementing Partner organizations, the public and
private health agencies.

Health service consumers will still be able to use the application to locate
and also get information about the range of services offered by the
different facilities they wish to access.

Why are you convinced your solution will solve the problem?

Having participated in health activities in the rural communities, I and
colleagues have experienced actual scenarios that call for usability of the
solution, that is, demand for the quick navigation and simplified
communication with colleagues. That awareness will help us to craft the
relevant user experiences.

Colleagues on this team and elsewhere can combine vital user experience to execute a perfect user-centered solution.

There is also a bulk of data resources that can aid this endeavor.

What other initiatives like yours exist out there? How will you differentiate your solution?

Google, Bing, Open Street Map (OSM) among other products, provide
general Geo-location services.

We differentiate ourselves by providing health site-specific information
on-the-go. This includes who the management-type for the facilities, the
level-of-care, services available among other traits relevant to the field
officers and consumers.

Moreover a search for the majority of these sites does not currently
return any results, with the existing Geo-location services.

In addition, we take an effort to tie health personnel who man the sites
for easy contact, including a mass-communication platform for the health
providers.

What have you done up-to date to test your idea with potential users? What learnings do you have to share?

We have shared the solution with several potential users that is health
workers in PNFP organizations, and at the health centers, and received
submissions on how they would want it to benefit them. So far there has
been no actual usage and product testing.

We have also come to appreciate privacy concerns regarding personal
contact information and we equally plan to implement user protection
mechanisms in the solution.

How will you financially sustain your business?

The application will charge fee for mass mobilization communications targeting the health care provider community such as conferences, health campaigns and workshops, through the platform.

The application will also generate revenue from internet banners (adverts).

Please tell us about each founder and their roles on the team. How do you know your founders and how long have you worked together?

Steven Kijooma is a data and field officer with IP agencies. He is
passionate about social and technology entrepreneurship, and he gives
administrative input towards the solution.

Angela Naigaga is a software major, passionate about technology
startups. Having participated on several projects, the team will benefit
from her technical expertise, and dynamism.

Apollo Munanura has a rich experience from supporting health supplies
with the NMS. He is familiar with the public health infrastructure. His
expertise will guide the implementation of the solution.

Noel Munaaba is a Computer Scientist with demonstrated
understanding of computers, the internet and the implementation of
computer systems as well as the development of secure and scale-able
software. He will be sharing his software expertise.
